Velvet Eccentric

Oxfordshire-based Velvet Eccentric creates interiors with heart and soul. The creative duo behind the company has over 20 years’ interior decorating experience and re-energises rooms, filling them with colour, pattern, texture and life.

Velvet Eccentric offers a complete bespoke interior styling service to provide beautiful, inspirational and unique detailing to its clients’ homes and to reflect individual personality and style. This includes the creation of feature walls, with the use of hand-painted glazes, plaster relief, gilding, contemporary stencilling and decorative artwork.

Taking inspiration from an eclectic mix of sources, including the flamboyant world of the Victorian theatre, the faded glamour of the 1930’s and the exotic fusion of colours from Indian and Moroccan textiles, Velvet Eccentric uses a combination of jewel-coloured luminous glazes, sumptuous fabrics in vibrant patterns and colours, beautifully contrasting textures and lavish embellishments to reflect their clients’ personalities.

For those who prefer a neutral palette, Velvet Eccentric makes creative use of texture, contrast and layering to balance subtle tones alongside one another successfully - layering lighter and darker shades of neutral hues on contrasting and complimentary luxury fabrics, such as velvets and damasks with linens - and highlighting them with subtle bursts of colour.

Furniture can be sourced to specification, painted and re-upholstered in a choice of fabrics from the company’s extensive vintage and contemporary collection.  Equally, commissions can be taken to update clients’ own pieces.

Services include:

  • Sophisticated hand-painted decorative finishes for walls, ceilings and furniture, including glazes, gilding, plaster finishes and relief work.
  • Upholstery and soft furnishings, using the finest vintage and contemporary fabrics and trims.
  • Furniture sourced to specification.
  • Comprehensive decorating service from consultation to complete renovation.
  • Commissions taken to update your own pieces.

The people

Rachel Berger
Rachel has always had a fascination with colour, pattern and texture and through decorating, it has become her passion. Since the early 1990’s she has been designing furnishing fabrics and honing her skills as a decorative artist, and has become skilled at applying painted finishes directly onto walls and other surfaces and working with plaster, stucco and gilding.  Rachel designs all the metallic finishes for the bath company, C.P.Hart, and is currently working on its new range.

Hannah Baud
Hannah’s background is in theatre and the arts, where she displayed a natural aptitude for all things dramatic and creative from an early age. Starting her own furniture decorating business several years ago, she created a range of beautiful bespoke pieces infused with bright colour and pattern, which she sold through local retail outlets and trade fairs. Hannah is a talented writer who is a regular homes & interiors' contributor for Four Shires magazine and is enjoying developing her own blog for the company website.
