Snapdragon Designs

ArtForm: City Showcase Markets

Hello, we are Snapdragon Designs. A husband and wife team Shelley and John, from Kent. We met at Art college and gained degrees in Graphic Design from De Montfort University. Shelley has been a professional Bookbinder for 12 years and John a Design and Technology teacher for 9. Together we design and make a range of unique and quirky acrylic jewellery influenced by fairy tales, stories and books alongside a range of handmade gorgeous books, photo albums, lasercut cards, prints and hand screen printed homewares.

Shelley has worked for many prestigious clients in her time at London bindery Delta Design which is owned and run by Cathy Robert. Whilst at the bindery Shelley mainly worked on bespoke photographers portfolios, handmade menus, boxes and books as well as being the leather worker. But after almost 10 years of working in London she tired of the daily commute and longed to create her own range of unique pretty books. Thus Snapdragon Designs was born and we started out selling the books at small local craft events to see if the public would like them and you did! So we carried on until John became the head of Design and Technology and gained access to a laser cutter which allowed him to make Shelley a cat ring which she loved and led to thoughts of designing more jewellery in this way using 3 items in symbol form to tell a story.

Our lasercut cards were a brainwave from Shelley, to this day if you ask her she will tell you she has no idea where the idea came from, only that it just popped into her head one day and she asked John to make a prototype. That prototype was our London skyline and to this day it is still our most popular selling card.
