Jinny Ngui Design

Jinny Ngui (pronounced nu-wee) is a London based product designer.
Jinny graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2005 with a degree in Ceramic Design. The practical nature of the course opened her eyes to the world of manufacturing and craftsmanship. The understanding of processes and techniques is an important element to Jinny’s design practice. Specialising in ceramic design has allowed her to explore form, surface and texture, which has been the main focus of her ceramic work. She also looks at the relationship between utility and decoration.
Jinny is drawn to patterns, bold graphics and colour. Inspiration is found primarily in London, from the wealth of galleries and museums, architecture, local markets, nature and the rich mix of cultures. Jinny’s own Chinese heritage has been an increasing influence on her work.
After a few years of designing for companies, Jinny missed working with ceramics and her own ideas, so purchased a kiln to start decorating bone china tableware. Here current work is a mixture of her own drawings and graphics along side stock patterns that she reinterprets. Jinny really enjoys the decorating process and creating items for people to use and love.
