Clara Castner

Clara is combining her passion for all things floral and her ceramics to create vessels that decorate the home.  Working with simple forms, the interest for her is the desire to touch and feel the ceramic surface.  Her current work is part of a five year plan, to create a vase shape for each type of flower.  She carves each of these by hand, using a variety of tools she has collected, making each one unique.  Glaze is then applied which settles into the carvings and highlights these patterns.

Before there was clay, there was fabric, and Clara made quilts and textile art.  She studied Art Foundation at City Lit in London, and was introduced to ceramics by the inspirational Robert Cooper.  She graduated from the BA (Hons) Ceramic Design Degree at Central St Martins in 2013 and has been making ever since.
