Arati Devasher

Arati Devasher is a designer-maker living and working in Finchley, North London. She paints and dyes silk by hand, creating luxurious scarves, ties and necklaces. Vibrant colour is key to her work, a legacy of her Indian heritage and upbringing. Intricate florals and sharp geometric motifs are the main focus of her designs. Fish and birds make occasional appearances, always in repetition, thereby creating their own patterns.

Each scarf, tie and accessory is individually designed and begins its life as pure white china silk. Arati brushes on eco-friendly hot soy wax and dyes in multiple layers on painted silk pieces. Her hand-dyed collections are made by brushing dye onto the precisely folded and clamped pieces of silk that create the geometric patterns of traditional Japanese shibori.

A quote from the designer-maker:
"Add just one unique accessory and elevate your style to Parisian chic in an instant. Wear a scarf with everything."

Arati Devasher will be exhibiting her new collections available for wholesale in the Newcomers’ Gallery at the British Craft Trade Fair 2017, in Harrogate.
