City Showcase targets Hull in the search for new music talent
City Showcase, the live music event that takes over London each year, is hitting the road in a tour of the UK as it seeks to uncover more newmusic talent.
In a series of live events to be held in Universities or Community Centres across the country, the Finding the Future programme will give solo artists, bands, songwriters or quite simply those interested in the music business, the opportunity to put their questions to a panel of music industry experts.
Backed by BASCA, ASCAP, the MU, MMF and FAC, the event will be promoted through university partners as well as through community organisations and local press into the wider community in each location. The first event on 8 February 2010 will target Hull!
Now in its 8th year, City Showcase has been the driving force in discovering new music talent each year. This year the City Showcase festival will be held in London between 6 – 8 May 2010, will continue to showcase new talent with live gigs, conferences and Q&A events, presented in various music venues, retail outlets and even on the streets of London, including special events in Chinatown and the Docklands. Previously showcased acts, such as Keane, AmyWinehouse, Razorlight, N-Dubz and Scouting for Girls have all gone on to huge profile, boosting excitement for the annual event.
A constant innovator, City Showcase has brought new and exciting elements to the 2010 programme and for the first time will put the show on the road, reaching out to aspiring new acts through its Finding the Future tour.
The first Finding the Future event will be held at the University of Hull in association with The Warren Project for Young People on Monday 8 February 2010. Future events are anticipated in Cardiff, Edinburgh, Liverpool and Cambridge rolling out across the country. Universities, colleges and community projects are encouraged to
get in touch to feature as part of the 2011 and on-going programme.
The programme will include session on songwriting and building a digital strategy and at the end of the day there will a chance to have your live performance critiqued by the panel. City Showcase will be sending scouts to search for new talent to bring forward to the May festival in London.
The event in Hull is sponsored by the University of Hull and is free.
