WHAT THEY SAY
Here's what they've said
“given that this is the event that first showed such budding superstars as Razorlight, Keane and Amy Winehouse, there are bound to be a few genuine gems on display” The Evening Standard
“there are plenty of festivals that devote themselves to showcasing ‘emerging’ artists, musicians and performers but there are few with the track record of City Showcase” Metro
Nihal & Bobby Friction – Radio 1 DJs: ‘City Showcase gives the Asian Acts of tomorrow a stage today. By exploring the diversity and creativity of British Asian music, it confounds stereotypes and inspires all those who witness the acts who perform.’
Rt Hon Lord Smith of Finsbury – Chair of London Cultural Consortium: ‘City Showcase is vital to ensure the future development of the UK’s wealth of musicians and designers. We have the freshest and most exciting mix of new music and fashion design anywhere in world. City Showcase plays a vital role in nurturing and supporting talent. Well done.”
Damo & Simon Webbe from Blue - Managers of Lyrican @ UK Team: 'It's hard to break in the UK and City Showcase gave Lyrican a great opportunity to play to new audiences both public and trade - it is great to see a festival dedicated to the discovery of new music and new talent – it was a fantastic night - thank you City Showcase'
Myleene Klass: Innovative. New artists with new opportunities with a wide demographic of people come to see you and its free! Fantastic!
Martin Talbot, ex-executive editor, Music Week: "In less than a year, and after just two events, the City Showcase has become a key event in London's live music calendar. Music Week sponsored one of the showcases in September and was delighted to be associated with what was a storming evening of great music and vibrant new talent."
Iain Baker - Musician and NME Radio DJ and ex-Xfm DJ - A great concept with great music
Mark Goodier, Classic FM and BBC Radio DJ - “I thought it was a super event – with wonderful talent”
The Bedford, Balham, SW12: All of the artists were fantastic and everyone of them brought something very special and unique to the night that they were involved in. Due to the calibre of the performers audience numbers were enhanced.
Anna Chen (MC for Chinese night): The whole event was a brilliant success. I was especially impressed, not only with the talent on show, but with the techies and stage managers who got the whole thing running smoothly and on time.
City Showcase acts
Keane: “It's hard to get anywhere as a band, and the City Showcase gig we played at the Islington Academy in February 2003 was a great opportunity for us to play on a bigger stage than we were used to. At that time we didn't have a record deal, so knowing there was no hope of tour support(!), every decent gig we were offered was a godsend and helped make us a better band.”
It was the first gig where it wasn’t just our Mums, Dads and a load of our mates – it was a big deal for us….at a slightly bigger venue than we were used to in front of people that didn’t know who we were. It was a good step on the ladder.
‘just wanted to thank you for getting us involved with The City Showcase this year and to tell you that we have had a great week. The shop gigs especially were fantastic, we had a great time and made some really good contacts.’
it was refreshing to be part of such a positive experience
Massive thanks for giving us the opportunity to perform, may I say it was without question the best organised gig we have ever performed at and the chance to bring down a band gave us the freedom to do something we don’t often get to do as ‘urban’ artists.
Very helpful, gave good insight into all aspects of industry.
Informative seminars and a useful networking event.
Always great to be amongst like-minded people with great advice on offer from music pros.
This week has restored my faith in music quite literally – after a bad experience in the pop world, it has not only helped me feel not so jaded but revaluated my passion for music.
‘thank you so much for a simply wonderful week. we both feel so uplifted and positive about moving forward with positivity and direction now thanks to all the advice support and information we gained from all the sessions.’
Wayne Hemingway: “City Showcase is a great concept. Getting exposure in different ways to the norm could be a launch pad for the lucky few. City Showcase provides ongoing advice from industry experts also helps to keep expectations real - something rare in this business. London needs to support and provide a platform for new talent if it is to remain one of the world’s cutting-edge fashion capitals. City Showcase does this, and it’s great to see London leading the way for promoting raw talent.”
Hannah Marshall – designer: ‘I am happy I got to take part in such a fantastic event, so thank you. I have made two valuable contacts and hope to keep in contact with both performers for future opportunities.’
Oliver Goddard (fashion designer): It was a pleasure to take part. Holly and I will be collaborating in the future. It's a great way to market my products. Through City Showcase, my designs are now on sale at Potassium in Marble Arch. WGSN will be covering my work for their online articles. This should be great promotion for myself, Holly, and City Showcase
